Ellison Statement on DACA
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison issued the following statement in response to reports that the President and Senate Republicans agreed to oppose a legislative solution for DACA recipients in the year-end spending bill:
“By preventing Congress from providing certainty and security for Dreamers in our year-end spending bill, President Trump and Senate Republicans are deliberately choosing to throw 800,000 people into even more chaos and fear.
A solution for Dreamers cannot wait. The 22,000 DACA recipients across our nation who could not meet Trump’s arbitrary and unfair extension deadline are already beginning to lose their protections. These are parents, students, teachers, and workers who are integral pillars of our communities, and they deserve more from us than a cruel betrayal. We cannot continue to hold the futures of Dreamers hostage.
If Congress does not pass a clean Dream Act by the end of this year, I will vote against any spending bill that does not include a permanent solution for Dreamers.”
