Press Release

In response to questioning and photographic evidence from Rep. Ellison, Mick Mulvaney admitted he had frosted the glass walls to his office and 13 other offices at the CFPB

WASHINGTON — Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) today sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney following up on the questions he asked in the House Financial Services Committee regarding Mr. Mulvaney’s decision to frost the glass walls in his office at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“I seek further information on the physical design changes you have made to Bureau offices, including to your own office,” Rep. Ellison said in his letter. “I am concerned that these changes limit the transparency of senior officials at the Bureau and create an appearance of impropriety.”

Rep. Ellison noted that Mr. Mulvaney stated in his written testimony that it was his job to “…ensure we are accountable to the American people.” Rep. Ellison in his letter states that, "obscuring your activities behind frosted glass was antithetical to your professed goals of increased transparency.”

Rep. Ellison requested a response by April 18th to a series of inquires, including requests for confirmation on whether Mr. Mulvaney directed Bureau officials to complete the project and when, and for identification of individuals who occupy offices with frosted glass.
