Internships
The Office of Congressman Keith Ellison is looking for enthusiastic interns for our Washington and Minneapolis offices. We seek interns who are curious, hardworking, and passionate about serving Minnesota’s 5th district.  Though many applicants are studying public policy, our work is broad and we encourage applicants interested in a wide range of careers. Internships are unpaid and begin in January, May, and September, and generally last 3-4 months.  While Congressman Ellison encourages all individuals to apply, applicants with strong ties to the Fifth District or Minnesota are preferred. People of color, LGBTQ individuals, women, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
The internship offers an excellent opportunity to learn about Congress, the legislative process, and the government in general. The primary duties of interns include assisting the Congressman's staff in clerical and administrative responsibilities, working on research projects, staffing the Representative at events, and helping with constituent casework. In Washington, interns will also gain insight into the legislative process by attending committee hearings, briefings on issues, and other similar events. In Minneapolis, interns help organize community events, connect with constituent organizations, and inform the Congressman’s work in Washington.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has strong written and verbal communication skills, is detail-oriented, has excellent interpersonal skills, and is organized and pays attention to detail. It is also important that the applicant has a keen interest in the political process and learning the operations of a Congressional Office. A minimum of 15 hours a week is required. Interns must conduct themselves in a manner that reflects well on the House of Representatives.
